​EXPLORE  STEAM  FAIR 

Hear our director talk about EXPLORE '25  on the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce's Quick 5 Spotify podcast.

The South Valley Science and Engineering Initiative (SVSEI) hosted the second annual free, family friendly, hands-on, EXPLORE  STEAM  FAIR on March 1, 2025, from 10AM-2PM at Britton Middle School's Student Union Building. We had over 225 fairgoers, 21 booth partners, 72 volunteers, and 25 fun, science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) based activities geared for pre-K to 12th grade students - with adults participating too! Our activities and booth partners consisted of:

  • Gridiron engineering face masks - San Francisco 49ers EDU

  • Jim Burnham - Scribblebot circuit design and fab

  • Morgan Hill Historical Society - Making a whirligig

  • Coyote Grange Maker Faire - Vacuum Forming

  • City of Morgan Hill - Stormwater Pollution Prevention Activities

  • Morgan Hill Library -Keva planks

  • Oakwood School - Programming and Rover Demo

  • Mark Hoffman - Robot Art

  • RAAC Academy - LEGOnautics and Crocheting

  • Sharyn Frentner - The Art and Math of Quilting

  • Jim Burnham - Paper Air Rockets

  • Mount Madonna School - Brushbots and QBAs

  • SVSEI - Wheel of Fortune

  • PA Walsh STEAM Academy - 3,2,1 - Blast Off !Balloon Rockets

  • Sobrato High School - Clay Art

  • Jackson Academy of Math & Music - Candy DNA, Magnetic Momentum, Shaving Cream Rainbow, and Sound & Vibration 

  • San Martin Gwinn - UV beads and Spring Flowers Potting

 

Thanks so much to our 72 volunteers from the Morgan Hill Kiwanis, AAUW- Morgan Hill, and Bay Area high school students. We could not have done it without all of you​​!

2024  EXPLORE  STEAM  FAIR
On August 4, 2024, fair, SVSEI held its inaugural EXPLORE  STEAM  FAIR.  Over 100 community members enjoyed playing and learning about science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) with the following activities: â€‹

  • Soldering for robotics

  • Reverse engineering

  • Making a thaumatrope

  • Vacuum forming

  • Stormwater pollution prevention activities 

  • Cubelets

  • 2D, 3D, and 2D art with 3D elements

  •  Quilting

  • Paper rockets

  • Wheel of Fortune

  • 3D printing pens​​​​​

To provide youth engagement in STEAM through both community outreach and by providing safe, inclusive, free public STEAM events for the Morgan Hill, Gilroy, and San Martin communities.
