Meet Explorer, SVSEI's STEAM fair mascot, designed and sketched by local illustrator Mark Hoffman. Could you help us decorate Explorer and its background? Imagination is key! SVSEI Art/Coloring Contest – Calling All Young Artists!!

The South Valley Science & Engineering Initiative (SVSEI) and the Morgan Hill Library invite local students to bring our SVSEI mascot to life with creativity and imagination! Your artwork could become the official image used in SVSEI events, the Explore STEAM Fair and future publications and website materials.
Who can enter:
Students who live in or attend a school within the Morgan Hill Unified School District (MHUSD) geographical area are eligible to participate.
Age Categories:
•Group 1: TK-4th Grade
•Group 2: 5th-8th Grade
•Group 3: 9th-12th Grade
Imagination is Key!
Theme: STEAM creativity and innovation. Artists are encouraged to explore any media – let your creativity flow!
You may use: Colored pencils, crayons, markers, ink, pastels, charcoal, watercolor, oil, acrylic, or mixed media.
*Computer generated artwork is not allowed.
Each entry must be original in concept, design, and execution.
How to participate:
1) Pick up the official coloring sheet at the Morgan Hill Library (660 W. Main Avenue) starting October 27, 2025 or print the PDF file at home on standard 8.5"x11" copy paper.
2) Create your masterpiece using any mixed media as described above.
3) Drop off your completed artwork at the library by December 1, 2025.
Each entry must include the student’s name, grade, school, and parent/guardian contact info (name, email, phone number) and signature on the back the coloring sheet.
Prizes & Recognition:
Winners in each student category will receive a $100 gift card to Booksmart!
Winning entries will be displayed and featured at the 2026 Explore STEAM Fair at Live Oak High School. The overall winning design will become the official SVSEI mascot artwork, appearing on future SVSEI events, flyers, and online materials.
Official Rules Summary:
Only one entry per participant. Open to students living in or attending school within MHUSD geographic boundaries. Artwork must be the artist’s original work. Any media or mixed media is allowed; computer-generated artwork is not permitted. Entries must be submitted by December 1, 2025. Late or incomplete submissions will not be accepted. All submissions become property of SVSEI and may be used for educational or promotional purposes.
